December 18th, 2012 was a well known date to Blink 182 fans of all ages—it was the release date of the bands newest EP “Dogs Eating Dogs.”
The album “Neighborhoods” (released in 2011) was Blink’s first album after reforming the band but many fans were disappointed. However, “Dogs Eating Dogs” rose up to the occasion and impressed fans all around.
One major difference between the new EP and “Neighborhoods” is their recording process. When recording “Neighborhoods,” Blink 182 members Travis Barker (drummer), Tom DeLonge (vocals/guitar) and Mark Hoppus (vocals/guitar) each recorded their parts in separate studios and even in separate states.
However, this time around the band chose to record together in the same state and the same studio, which really shows throughout the album.
Kicking off the EP is “When I Was Young;” a quick paced song featuring vocals mainly from DeLonge.
The EP remains fast and upbeat until the fourth song of the five track EP entitled “Boxing Day.” While this song is slower than the others, fans can still hear the Blink they have come to know and love and will not be disappointed with the track.
Ending “Dogs Eating Dogs” is a track titled “Pretty Little Girl” which features an unlikely choice, Yelawolf. Although it is odd for a band of this genre to collaborate with a rap artist, Blink chose to do it anyways which is what sets apart this song from anything they have ever written before.
All in all, “Dogs Eating Dogs” is an EP that every fan of punk music should be rocking to on their iPods.
