È tornato! It’s back! Italian Club, after years of absence, has started up again just this year. On Oct. 2, Italian Club had its first meeting with food and fun.
Club sponsor, new Italian teacher Anna Izzo, is bringing her culture back to Elk Grove.
What exactly is Italian Club? It’s exactly what it sounds like. Italian culture is full of life, entertainment and social interaction. The club will celebrate Italy’s rich, merry ethnic aestheticism by outtings, meetings and events.
Some of these outtings and events include bake sales, going to restaurants, visiting cafes and having a Christmas party. Food is a prominent aspect of Italian culture, as you can see. If eating Nutella with Italian cookies is your kind of thing, then Italian Club is the place to be.
The club meets the first Tuesday of every month after school in room 239. Meetings range from 30-45 minutes, starting at 3:30. It ends just in time to catch the late bus.
Here’s some great news: Italian Club fulfills the activity requirement for the year. For the busy student, this club does not burden rigorous schedules because it does not demand you attend long after school meetings. According to Izzo, it was designed that way so that more students could take part in the club.
Student council has a president. Debate has captains. Italian Club has officers– four seniors who are, besides Izzo and co-sponsor, leaders of the club. Officers organize events, run meetings and act as the figures of the club. Potential officers were discussed at the first meeting.
There are no restrictions as to who could join Italian Club. If you’d like to experience Italian for yourself, but are taking Spanish, you are welcome. Walk-ins are welcome at any time, and it is never too late to join.
At the first meeting, a lot of students were ecstatic that Italian Club has been brought back from the dead. Considering that many students came the first meeting, joining the club can make friendships and form bonds amongst students. Looking for a fun club? Evviva l’Italia!
