Girls volleyball started the season strong with full program sweeps against Hoffman Estates and Fenton.
To coach Patrick Hennelly there were several reasons as to why the girls volleyball team was able to get off to the strong start that it did.
“I came into the program with a great team, a lot of skill and great energy,” Hennelly said in an email. “The main thing that we needed was to keep this energy and excitement moving forward into the season. We were definitely able to do that and have brought even more energy and excitement with recent wins.”
With the success, early victories and improvement, senior leadership has built a positive rapport within the team.
Senior outside player Reese Wadas says that the goal she set for this win is to be a supportive teammate.
“I think that one of the goals I set for myself, that helped us win, is being a supportive teammate, which I think everyone was supportive which all helped us be better win,” Wadas said.
Coach Hennelly echoed some goals for himself as well in order to have a successful season.
“Winning at least one post season match and winning six conference matches this season” are part of the team’s goals, Hennelly said.
Due to the chaos of trying to balance all three girls volleyball teams Hennelly strives to improve his balance and make a change.
“This is something I want to do better. It is a lot to balance all of them and I definitely do not get a lot of time to spend with the younger levels. That being said, we make it a point to do position practices and Big Sister and Little Sister to be able to get to know and work with all of the girls.” Henelly said.
Coach Henelly wanted to set some areas of improvement in ownership, but overall, he said he loves the commitment he got out of this year’s team.
“I love how committed everyone is to winning,” he said. “These girls are a hard working group and they deserve nothing but all of the accolades they get.”
Senior setter Olivia Eugene and senior middle Victoria Bieszczad shared some of their favorite memories and personal goals they set for themselves.
“My favorite memory from volleyball is all the girls that I’ve met and all the friendships I’ve made,” Eugene said.
Bieszczad said she that being more serious at practice and games will help all of the girls achieve their goals and be more successful.
“I think something I need to work on personally is locking in and being more serious at practice and at games but I can say that for all of us. “
The girls volleyball team will compete against Palatine in the Elk Grove regional Tuesday, 10/28.
