Nothing company releases new carbon-neutral phone

Earlier speculation of a new phone from Nothing has been trickling out, and earlier this year, the company announced Phone 2a, the third phone in its line.

Nothing is a London-based company whose goal is to produce carbon-neutral tech. They produce phones and headphones, and they also have a lab coat and cap for sale as a piece showing their company. The company appears to be known for its unique design of glyph on their phones and overall uniqueness within the tech market.

Phone 2a — known colloquially as Phone 3 — has a 8-Core 4nm Gen 2 MediaTek Dimensity 7200 pro 5G processor, a 32 MP front camera with 1080p 60 FPS recording, and a 50MP rear with 4K 30 FPS recording, 120Hz display with 1,300 nits brightness and 1.07 billion colors, 240Hz touch sampling rate with HDR10+, 20GB 12+8 GB Ram Booster RAM, and a 5000m Ah battery with 45W fast charging (36% faster charge).

Other features include dual 5G networking, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, Fingerprint sensor with Face unlock, IP54 Certification for water resistance, and a 360o Antenna, all of which is expected from newer phones.

Phone 2a also only produces 52 kg CO2e, making it Nothing’s most carbon-neutral phone. It’s also produced from recycled parts including up-cycled scrap from Ear 2 production, recycled aluminum used in the mid frame, recycled tin on 7 circuit boards, recycled copper foil on the main circuit board, recycled steel on 22 steel stamping parts, with over 50 percent of the plastic parts sustainably sourced It also runs on Nothing OS 2.5 which is powered by Android 14, and its 6.7in total screen size.

Now when compared to what was speculated to be from it, Phone 2a was guessed to have a 4800 mAh battery which was an understatement to the 5000 mAh battery, three models of 128, 256, and 512 GB storage were also speculated when it only has a 128GB and 256 GB available. The 6.7-inch screen matches what people had guessed, however, the 3.5mm audio jack was not added to it.

Other miscellaneous items that were not added included a temperature/pulse sensor, eSIM, and budget phone options. Better processor, dual sim, and screen resolution were added though, showing that Nothing is listening to consumer suggestions. This is also evident in the fact that Nothing is allowing users to vote on the design of the phone.

Nothing also claims that the phone will last two days straight with its battery life.
