Graduation will remain inside

As the year is coming to an end, the seniors are looking forward to graduation. There is a huge change in the graduation ceremony this year, and the senior class is not happy about it.

The Elk Grove staff has come together and made a commitment to host the graduation ceremony indoors.

Many questions have been asked regarding the decision, and Associate Principal Kyle Burritt has provided some answers. In prior years, two set ups have been done, one in the gym and the other outside in the stadium.

“Planning and setting up for two completely different ceremonies was very labor intensive and not cost effective,” Burritt said.

Agreeing with Burritt, counselor Heather DeCook said, “The custodians have to do two

whole set ups. What’s the point of that?” Regarding the weather, DeCook said, “You never know what the weather is going to be like.” She added “It’s always extreme weather” making the ceremony a “big task.”The class of 2015 held their graduation ceremony inside, which DeCook said, “Last year it went really well, and there were

few complaints, and people were happy.” The biggest concern among students and families seems to be the amount of tickets that will be given to each family to attend the ceremony. Each student will be provided with four tickets, which could be an issue for students such as

Senior Alli Ludkowski. “I think it’s unfair that we only get four tickets.

Our tickets should be counted by the number of people in each family,” Ludkowski said.

For families with more than four members, there will be a live stream in the cafeteria, as well as the theatre.
