The African-American Teen Summit took place on April 8 at the National Louis University in Wheeling. The African-American Teen Summit is when African-American teens come together and learn from African-American leaders who are in career paths that those teens aspire to be in.

One of the leaders Brian Lee said, “The Summit gives kids a voice and a safe haven that they don’t have living in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.”

This summit also gives the teens time to interact with leaders who have the same interest. Students from all of District 214, Forest View and Vanguard all attended this summit. One reason why the teachers of District 214 organized this was because Harper College did not have their annual Teen Summit. “We had enough resources and experience among us to host our own Summit, catered to the need of our District 214 students,” Lee said.

Lee’s expectations were very high saying “I thought the students lives changed and I think they were a different student when they left the summit as they were going in. I hoped that this was a spark that our students needed to lead them to the path of greatness.”
