EGHS Auto Club prepares for state competition

The SkillsUSA had a recent qualifying exam in their respective area of concentration to make it to state.

The students that will be representing EG will be Juniors Mary Cronin and Carly Hertzberg in Culinary Arts; sophomore Angela Geraci, seniors Pedro Abad and Eiko Horibe in Commercial Baking; Seniors Cody Danek, Nikki Sugihara, Austin Danek, Michael Czaja and Roque Villalobos in Carpentry; sophomore James Loska and senior Brandon Garcia in CNC Milling, and lastly senior Daniel McKay, junior Carlos Leon and junior Dominik Faciano in Automotive Services.

State will be held on April 22 in Springfield. The SkillsUSA is an organization that allows students in the CTE areas to compete at the state and national level.

Also, Auto Club placed second in the pedal car challenge. In this competition there were eight different schools trying to claim first place. Jeff Zdenovec, the Auto Club sponsor, teaches automotive classes during the day. “Their car was a true piece of art,” Zdenovec said. He added that he was very excited. “This was our best car in years. Big shout out to senior Peter Barts for making it happen.”
