The girls basketball team persevered through a long season and is moving on to regionals, sectionals, then state.

Starting conference games in December, the girls have worked long and hard to get where they are.

They finished off the season with their final game against Rolling Meadows on Friday, February 5.

Regarding their season as a whole, Jennifer Guth, varsity coach, said, “It’s been a tough season, but our goal has been to get better with each and every game.” They won a total of 4 games out of 26.

Jennifer Banach, a junior on Varsity, said that the ups and downs have, “made the team grow stronger in the end.”

Out of 27 conference games, the girls remembered one victory particularly fondly: their win over Prospect High School on December 18. They won 44-31.

Junior Leilani Rivera described it as “their best moment.”

Elk Grove will be hosting regionals on February 15 before potentially sectionals and state.

Guth expects to win their first match, but her main hope for the team is that they, “leave their hearts on the floor and play with a lot of passion.”

Banach said, “I definitely think we can go far with this group because we have a lot of talent.”
