Winter Fest to replace Turnabout

The dance once known as Turnabout will now be known as Winter Fest.

A host of other changes are coming along with the new name, although “the details are yet to be decided,” Assistant Principal for Student Activities Robert Murphy said.

“It’s more than just a high school dance,” he said. “Right now, we’re trying to find some student performers for it… if there’s any DJs and rappers, we want them to participate.”

Murphy explained that the change was due to a lack of success for the school’s past winter events.

“We’ve gone back and forth between Turnabout and Winter Formal,” Murphy said. “Regardless of what we’ve done, our participation from the student body has been very low.”

Murphy hopes that the event will be able to reverse this trend.

“This festival project has been very successful [at] the other schools that have tried it,” Murphy said.

The event is standing on its own terms at this point, although the same company that provided DJing at Homecoming is involved.

“It’s not gonna be anything like Homecoming,” Murphy said.

Unlike Homecoming and Winter Fest, little change will be coming to Prom.

“Everything for Prom will be the same,” Murphy said, although he noted that a new DJ company for post-Prom is being explored.

Winter Fest will take place on January 23.
