To make a difference: Do video games need ratings?
December 17, 1993
Going all the way back to the early 90s, parents were still protesting about violent video games, even when the most violent game was the original “Mortal Kombat,” which by today’s standards is pretty laughable. This year was when a Democratic senator planned to pass a bill that made it mandatory to create a rating system for video games. This author argued that a ratings system was largely “worthless” and would only result in more paperwork for the nation. He argued that “if we allow children to believe in games as real life, then we have a problem with parents, not the games people allow their children to live by.” Even though soon after this a rating system was established and firmly exists today, his words still ring true and should probably be listened to.
