Coach Robert Pomazak, former defensive coordinator for the Elk Grove Grenadiers football team, makes his debut as head coach for the St. Charles North Stars against his former team and students.
Pomazak also taught physical education before leaving for St. Charles North.
He faces possibly the toughest game of the season as he prepares to face a nation in which he was once a part of.
“I look forward to seeing what the kids are doing. It is going to be great to see the Nation fan group,” Pomazak said. “It is a great group of kids”.
Coach Pomazak feels it will be a nice change of pace to be able to see the fan group at work.
The Grens are looking to start the season with a win, and what a way to start facing a team whose coach is well respected and well admired by some of the students here in EG.
“I feel like its going to be hard; Pomazak helped me through a lot of stuff last year,” said senior defensive lineman Johnny Assimakopoulos.
There is definitely a personal aspect that will affect this game for both the coaches and the players. But neither of them are letting that affect their attitudes.
“I have nothing but good memories,” Pomazak said. “So there is no personal edge to this game.”
Senior quarterback Adam O’Malley has the same mindset going into this game.
“I’m not letting the game be more than it has to be,” O’Malley said.
For Pomazak, coaching on the visiting side will definitely be an adjustment. But he is excited and ready to adapt.
“I will acclimate to the visiting side pretty quickly,” Pomazak said. “It’s a great opportunity to lead a football team.”
