The last game played and all the gear turned in the boys say goodbye to another season.
Like every year the team prepares to say goodbye to their senior team mates.
“The thing I’m going to miss the most is how great of role models they were to the younger guys,” junior Adam O’Malley said.
The hardest part for O’Malley will be to see his brother leave for college next fall.
“It’s gonna be hard. He’s my best friend and I’m going to miss him,” O’Malley said.
As for senior Anthony DeBell, he is going to miss seeing all the guys on the team everyday and not being as close with some of them for that reason. The season has gone by quickly but there are memories that DeBell will carry with him next year.
“My favorite moment of the season was the win over Rolling Meadows being that they were considered a top team in the 6A,” DeBell said. “We knocked them off and we found out we had a second life in playoffs.”
Although, like Coach Larry Calhoun put it, the team is losing some valuable seniors there are high hopes for next year’s team.
“They’ll be ready to carry the torch as juniors,” Calhoun said.
The sophomore football team won conference against Prospect.
While the varisty team lost against Prospect, they still advanced to playoffs. The team ended the season 5-5 overall.
This was the fourth year Elk Grove has made playoffs.
“We didn’t reach the goals we had at the start of the season but overall I’m really proud our guys,” Calhoun said.
The team came together and became a tight knit unit.
“I think those guys they gave each other heart and soul and really played their hearts out,” Calhoun said.
