The speech team has entered the toughest part of their season, which includes the schools they are competing against, such as Downers Grove South, their biggest competition. It also includes preparations for regionals.
Downers Grove South has won the tournament for a decade, according to senior Nellie Sampang. This tournament falls on finals week, which might make it even more difficult for the team.
“Things are just getting heated now to a level they definitely weren’t in November,” Sampang said.
Junior Katie Kozak is looking forward to show her competition and what she can accomplish.
“I feel like I’m improving every week. I have definitely gotten better and pushed myself since the beginning of the season,” she said.
Sampang is looking forward to competing against the best of the best. She also wants to see how well the rest of the team does.
“There have been some off performances in the past few weeks,” Kozak said. “But that’s just motivation to work harder.”
On Dec. 15, the team placed sixth out of 17 schools at the Streamwood invitational. On Dec. 8, the team placed seventh out of 28 schools at the Palatine invitational.
