In the first week of October, junior Dillon Hallam has sold more than 60 new albums. While other students’ excitement are taking a break because of school after a whole week of Homecoming, Hallam still has some excitement left in him because of the release of his first album, “Nothing’s a Secret.”
“It’s natural. I knew he could do it. So, it’s not surprising,” sophomore Angelica Hallam said.
In just the first day, he has sold 13 albums. That is to be expected since Elk Grove received an early release. The official release of the album is Oct. 7.
“I think they [Dillon Hallam’s songs] are actually really good. It sounds like someone famous,” freshman Naomy Ilc says.
His album features a good beat that sounds like Skrillex, Dubstep and Techno put together with rap. It’s called Electronic Rap.
“It’s different from the music played on the radio,” Ilc said.
When Dillon Hallam was about 6, he started playing the drums. By age 7, he started taking drum lessons.
“One of my foster brothers, Josh Grayson, he took lessons and I took lessons too,” Dillon Hallam says.
Dillon Hallam has been playing drums in every foster home he has been in– which is 12. From there, his passion for music grew. He can play the drums, piano, guitar and sometimes the trombone.
“I tried to sing and I can rap. I enjoy it,” Dillon Hallam said.
The lyrics come from the experiences Hallam has faced for 10 years.
“It’s fun; like I always check on his music. He comes to me to make sure its good,” Angelica Hallam says. “The lyrics are honest. They’re different.”
Even if his first album only just came out, he is already going to do a song with junior Austin Sykes, another artist from Conant. His album includes a song with Big Country, an alumni from Elk Grove, and junior Johnny Assimakoupolus.
“I’ve been in so many bands,” said Dillon Hallam. “I can’t imagine myself not playing an instrument.”
