On Feb. 4, senior Andrew Morley spent the day trying to make as much money as possible by 8 p.m. A show that was announced that morning for 9 p.m. that same night caused the music industry to explode.
But it is not just any show; it’s a Fall Out Boy show.
American pop-punk band Fall Out Boy consists of singer Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley. The popular Chicago band (originally from Wilmette, Ill.) formed in early 2001 but went on a hiatus in 2009 due to artistic differences.
The sudden return to the music industry had fans going crazy.
“I was freaking out because at 8:30 a.m. they were non-existent,” Morley said. “And by 9 a.m. they were like ‘This is our new song’, ‘This is our album’, ‘Oh and we’ll be in Chicago tonight’.”
It was hard to believe at first that the band was really back. Publications such as PupFresh and Blessthefall lead singer Beau Bokan have been saying for a few months that the band was getting back together, yet Wentz or Trohman would turn down the rumors, upsetting fans but making the comeback that much better.
“I was extremely happy because I’ve been waiting for it for three years,” junior Amber Freidenfelds said. “And I almost cried a few times.”
Wentz said in interviews that he didn’t think anybody would care about the band returning. However, fans reactions have been the complete opposite. Not only did they play a show in Chicago (which sold out in a matter of minutes, by the way) but also a sold out show in Los Angeles, New York and have upcoming sold out shows overseas.
But thats not all. The same day as the comeback, the band also announced a U.S. tour for late spring, which was completely sold out the day tickets went on sale.
Fans’ responses to the band’s comeback has been so positive that Fall Out Boy decided to release their new album “Save Rock and Roll” a month early.
Originally scheduled to be released May 5, the album is now set to release April 15.
“I’m really excited because they’re all talented musicians and anything they put out will be good,” Freidenfelds said. “But I’m a little nervous that it won’t be the Fall Out Boy that I knew. But it’ll be great.”
While waiting for the new album, fans can enjoy Fall Out Boy’s first single since the release of “I Don’t Care” in 2009.
The new song “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark” proved that Fall Out Boy really is back, just by return of their infamously long song titles.
“Patrick’s voice has grown amazingly,” said Morley “It’s a really good song.”
